Wahoo winter season
Report: More wahoo on board. Fortunately for us, wahoo can be caught year-round along the Riviera Maya coast, and this winter has been no exception. We also enjoyed some fresh ceviche made on the boat by our Pescado Adventures crew. For those of you that don't know, ceviche is a Latin American dish made with raw fish or shellfish that is marinated in citrus juice and other seasonings. The acidic marinade "cooks" the fish, giving it a firm texture and a tangy, refreshing flavor. Delicious when fresh!

King mackerel
Report: Grouper and king mackerel on the same afternoon trip! We love king mackerel because they can grow quite large, reaching up to 5.5 feet long and weighing over 100 pounds. Add this to their strong fight and acrobatic leaps, and its game on! And if that is not all, king mackerel's meat is firm and flavorful, best enjoyed grilled, smoked, or blackened. They are migratory, moving north in the spring and south in the fall following warmer waters and prey. So let's get out there and find some more!

End of 2024 success
Report: Monday, December 30, 2024 Brought two nicely-sized wahoo on board on the second last day of the year. The sea has been so calm during the month of December. In this month Puerto Aventuras typically experiences moderate wind conditions. The average wind speed is around 9.3 mph (15.0 kph). This makes for comfortable weather with a gentle breeze. The wind in December is generally pleasant and not too strong, making it ideal for outdoor activities like swimming, sunbathing, and sailing.

Early morning sailfish bites big
Report: We hit this beautiful sailfish pretty early out of the Puerto Aventuras marina. Fortunately for us, the southern Riviera Maya coast boasts a complex underwater topography that creates ideal conditions for pelagic species like marlin, sailfish, and mahi-mahi. The continental shelf and slope, ocean currents, reef systems and upwelling zones all combine to create a dynamic and productive marine environment that supports a thriving population of pelagic fish. So those of you who want to enjoy some exciting fish, this is definitely a great spot for all you sport fishing enthusiasts.

More sailfish surprise out of Puerto Aventuras
Report: This is the second sailfish we have landed in the space of a week. In the Riviera Maya, sailfish are present year-round, but their abundance varies significantly with the seasons. The peak season for sailfish fishing typically occurs from late winter to early summer, with March through June being the prime months for encountering these magnificent fish. During this period, the warmer waters and plentiful baitfish attract large schools of sailfish to the region. While still present during the rest of the year, their numbers are considerably lower outside of the peak season. So very privileged we were to bring this beauty on board for a quick photo session.

Wahoo are here now
Report: Wahoo are here in the Riviera Maya! What a beautiful catch we landed yesterday. This baby is definitely going to be prepared on the barbecue. :) In the Riviera Maya, wahoo are present year-round, but their abundance varies depending on the season. The peak season typically occurs during the winter months, from November to February, when cooler water temperatures and abundant baitfish attract these apex predators. Now is the time to get out to sea and get fishing!

Wahoo!
Report: They are here! Wahoo are a highly sought-after game fish in the Riviera Maya due to their aggressive strikes and delicious meat. While they can be caught year-round, the best time to target Wahoo is during the cooler months, from November to March. During this period, water temperatures drop, and Wahoo tend to congregate in larger schools, making them easier to find and catch. Let's go for it!

All day action
Report: Although the weather has not been perfect, with cloudy skies and rain showers common through the week, we were out at sea almost every day and had a lot of fun! On this 6-hour private fishing charter we managed to hook 5 barracuda, 1 wahoo, 1 yellowtail kingfish and 1 bonito. A fantastic catch that had everyone in the group see some action. Despite this being a slower season for fishing, we have still managed to find the fish.

Hard work, big fish
Report: While we have been out fishing most days of this month, we haven't published any reports lately. Here's one where we managed to hook a really good-looking wahoo, which is a great fish for grilling because it's firm and meaty, making it less likely to fall apart on the grill. Try marinating it with a combination of olive oil, lime juice, garlic, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper. After grilling serve with lime wedges. Wahoo can dry out quickly, so be careful not to overcook it. It's best served medium-rare to medium. One of our favorite recipes!

Before Hurricane Helene
Report: We managed to squeeze in a trip just before Hurricane Helene started forming literally over the Riviera Maya. Absolutely killed it and pulled over 40 Mahi Mahi on board! Even though we are in low season for predatory species, thanks to our hardworking crew at Pescado Adventures, we still manage to get on top of them sometimes.

Mahi Mahi madness
Report: Another awesome day out on the Mexican Caribbean. Weather and sea conditions were just right, in fact, August has been the first month in the entire year that we have not had to cancel trips due to weather! This has been fantastic news for us who like to fish, as calm seas mean that no one felts uncomfortable on the water. An atypical month but perfect for us. :) And just when we thought the season would slow down, Mahi Mahi were jumping out of the water again. This meant that our Pescado Adventures crew could prepare some delicious, fresh ceviche to enjoy after hours of tight lines.

Wahoo wahoo wahoo
Report: Wahooooo! Awesome full day 8-hour trip on our 40ft Luhrs with lots of action for everyone. Hooked enough wahoo to feed quite a few people. :) Cannot beat fresh fish on the barbecue. Here's one of our favorite recipes if you ever have the opportunity to take some home: cut the wahoo into bite-sized pieces and marinate them in a mixture of olive oil, soy sauce, ginger, and garlic for 30 minutes. Thread the wahoo pieces onto skewers along with chunks of pineapple, red bell pepper, and onion. Grill the kabobs over medium heat for 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until the wahoo is cooked through and the pineapple is caramelized. Drizzle with a teriyaki glaze for extra flavor. Deep sea fishing outside of the Puerto Aventuras marina just keeps giving.

Report: An early morning start allowed u to watch the sunrise as we dropped our lines in the water. It was a beautiful start to the day. And we saw some action: wahoo, skipjack tuna, barracuda and bonito. Afterwards we anchored in the calmer waters of the Puerto Aventuras inlet (caleta) for a well-deserved swim and some food.
